The heART of Affirmation

Posted by: cerwin | December 8, 2008 | No Comment |

A Tribute to Jaycee Pressy

“MEMBERS don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.”

We quoted this in reply to a comment on my blog on the “Role (Past) Presidents Play.”

Members in an organization like JCI get motivated no matter what the odds may be on tasks they do when they feel the leader cares for them, even through mere pats on the back. Much more when the leader demonstrates affirmation.

This brings to fore my memory of my mother, Presentacion T. Eviota, Jaycee Pressy, charter member of the Cebu Hara Jaycees (JCI Cebu Hara), the person who brought me to the world of JCI, whose birthday we remembered last Nov. 21st.

Failure is (not) an option

Gene Kranz in action at NASA.

Gene Kranz at NASA.

“FAILURE is not an option.”

So goes the famous line NASA flight director Eugene “Gene” F. Kranz uttered to flight controllers at Mission Control in Houston on April 13, 1970 after declaring:

“We’ve never lost an American in space and we’re sure as hell not gonna lose one on my watch!”

Actor Ed Harris said it well when he played the role of the person, who brought Neil Armstrong to the moon and saved the crew of Apollo 13, in the 1995 movie.

The line is typically American, truly western and very results-oriented.

I’m running for US President!

Posted by: cerwin | August 12, 2008 | 1 Comment |

Mga Higala, Mga Kaibigan!

I had never expected this. I didn’t believe this would happen.

But
a bandwagon that has overwhelmingly rippled across the US prompted me
to challenge Barrack Obama and John McCain, even Paris Hilton if she
pursues her synthesis of the Democrat-Republican platform.

My decision is in the news all over US now, as it is the current main feature in the online version of NEWS.3 in Oklahoma: www.News3Online.com. CNN, MS-NBC, FOX News and even ANC, BBC, Al Jazeera and TV Patrol Central Visayas will soon follow.

Many Americans believe they will win as a people if they elect me as the first Philippine-born US President.

Please tell your friends and relatives in the US who have become American citizens to vote for me, okay?

Daghang Salamat!

Mabuhay ang mga Pinoy!

Mabuhay na rin ang Amerika!

PS:
Please let me know by your comments your thoughts after you will have viewed the NEWS.3
report. Just in case, here’s the complete link:

How about Obama - Clinton?
And why not Roxas - Escudero?
How about at the local front in Cebu?

For Mandaue City, we’d want  Carlo Fortuna to continue serving, likely still as Vice Mayor. But many of us, his friends in Junior Chamber International (JCI), now want him to serve as National Executive Vice President for the Visayas.

Agree?

It will be his spring board for the National Presidency by 2011, if not in 2010 only that he’ll be busy with the local election in that year.

More discussions in my Multiply page.

By the way, Carlo will fly to the US Thursday, June 5. He’s the only Filipino local official to be part of 16 other non-Americans to participate in the United States International Leadership Visitors Program.

Carlo_pontico_c_fortuna
The 4 week leadership program, which
will bring the participants to different States in the US from the East to the
West Coast, will focus on U.S. Federal System of Government, the functions of
the State and Local Governments and its interactions with the Federal
Government and how elections are organized and how private individuals and
organizations work with local governments to provide services and ensure accountability.

The program’s participants are
established or potential foreign leaders in government, politics, media,
education, economics, labor, human rights and a variety of other fields.
Previous Philippine participants include multi-awarded Mayor Jesse Robredo
of Naga City, Mayor Edward Hagedorn of
Puerto Princesa City, Cong. Nerissa Soon-Ruiz and Solicitor General Agnes
Devanadera.

Let’s have coffee, and discuss more!

JCI Cebu-Mactan Channel sweeps 10 Areacon awards

Posted by: cerwin | September 11, 2007 | No Comment |
CATBALOGAN CITY,
Samar (Sept. 8) — JCI Cebu-Mactan Channel swept ten major awards
during 27th Visayas Area Conference of Junior Chamber International (JCI)
Philippines here today, earning the most-coveted 2007 Best Chapter of the Year
and 2007 Best Chapter President for its current chief executive, JCI Mem.
Angelo Daniel R. Parcon.

This developed as the
2-year old chapter ranked No. 3 in the Visayas and No. 7 nationwide in the
JCI Philippines Efficiency Award (JCIPEA) System, a feat unprecendented for a
very young chapter.

Awards_1
Parcon’s elected
successor for 2008, JCI Mem. Jolex Yu Lim, PG, also earned the merit
as Most Outstanding JCI Member. Parcon manages visual display and interior
designs at SM City - Cebu, while Lim leads the corporate support and services
team of Gothong Southern, the emerging leader in shipping and logistics services
in southern Philippines.

The organization
earned awards for producing the Best Programs for Business
Development, Individual Development, Membership Recruitment and Sports
Development that JCI Sen. Manuel Van Torrevillas, national executive vice
president for the Visayas, handed over during the awards night at the Samar
State University gymnasium in this city.

JCI Mem. Marlon Ariel L.
Polinar, 2007 secretary-general and 2008 vice president-elect for programs, also
earned the Most Outstanding Project Chairman award, while adopted member Lorelei
"Mai-Mai" Miscala-Dasmariñas, a Certified National Trainer under JCI University,
who is serving the Area Council as Training Director, was granted the Most
Outstanding Trainer award.

President Parcon,
30, and his wife Emi Rose Sesbreño Remoroza, 29, who now serves the
organization as PRO and who will be secretary-general for 2008, with the active
presence of their son Dain Angelo "Dindin," 8, in various chapter activities,
earned them the Most Outstanding JCI Family award.

2006 charter president
JCI Mem. Cerwin T. Eviota, CNT, NG, as 2007 commissioner for records and
recognition of the Visayas, took pride in announcing the awards before some 200
delegates who attended the conference awards night.

‘Be
Better’

The JCI awards system is
a highly competitive process done through a fully-integrated online
system where e-bids, or electronic documentation of projects and programs
and involvement of individual members, are evaluated by 25 pre-selected
competetent members who serve as jurors nationwide.

This e-Award system found
the ongoing Work-Trepreneurship Project that JCI Cebu-Mactan Channel has
started to pilot in Barangay Kamputhaw in Cebu City to be the Best Business
Development Program for helping workers and jobless folks through a
process that will lead them towards self-reliance that may just begin as
grassroots economical ventures.

For "The Next Step -
Furthering Ourselves to Be Better" that outlined how the chapter molded its
members this year, the judges thought the organization had the Best Individual
Development Program, as well as the Best Membership Recruitment Program for its
"Discovery Series" and "Coffee Conversations."

The series of bowling
fellowships among members and with those from other JCI chapters dubbed
as "Do You have What It Takes?" led the group to gain the Best Sports
Development Program.

"For a young chapter,
that is a very good accomplishment," remarked JCI Sen. Gino C. Gonzalez, their
adviser who was a distinguished JCI awardee as Best Member in 1996 and Best
President in 2001 during whose term in JCI Cebu raked in awards both in the area
and national levels.

JCI Cebu-Mactan Channel
members undertook the award-winning projects and programs under the 2007 theme
"H.A.R.N.E.S.S. to Be Better." H.A.R.N.E.S.S. means Happy Advancement through
Responsive Networking of Entrepreneur-leaders with Sharpened
Synergy.

In its charter year last
year, JCI Cebu-Mactan Channel was adjudged as the 2006 Best New Chapter of the
Year and earned merits for outstanding programs for community
development, membership recruitment and joint work with other JCI chapters,
plus recognitions for outstanding president (Eviota), current member
(Parcon) and new member (Lim).

Aspiring
leaders and young entrepreneurs interested to join JCI may express their
intent by email at jcicebumactanchannel@yahoo.com or jcicmc@gmail.com, or by
SMS to 0922-8-MACTAN.
